A room of jean links come together to create a web of open space, spanning floor to ceiling. Each interconnected link features a range of blues from light cornflower to blue black. The negative space creates organic angular shapes which repeat as shadows on the wall behind.
Denim, material made from cotton and indigo, is an ever present reminder of these crops produced by enslaved people. The weight of the fabric and force of gravity on the suspended work creates a visible tension among the loops. Tension that still exists within the body. My own body, complicit in this system of racial injustice.
