How is my privilege related to someone else’s poverty? It’s a powerful question and something I can’t stop thinking about after listening to an engaging presentation by Dipti Desai at SFSU. Last night, walking home from the Muni to the bus station in SF in the dark my eyes met a homeless older, bearded man lying in a sleeping bag. His eyes followed mine as I walked by. How is my privilege related to him? How am I connected to him? I feel connected and yet it feels difficult to reach out. I want to do something. I’m hoping my artwork can help me answer these questions.
I’m loving the work of Anida Youe Ali… see her video 1700% Project: Mistaken for Muslim. Thanks for Dipti Desai for the introduction.
