I found out about Dallas Clayton through the blog of Dan Haase who is also participating in Art Every Day Month Challenge. Ohh man, Dallas Clayton’s video brought tears to my eyes. In a nutshell, he wrote a book for his son about dreaming big and it changed his life. I love hearing about that stuff.

This page was inspired by Hanna who is also doing Arthouse Co-op’s The Sketchbook Project along with 28,000 others. Today’s the deadline to sign up. To be honest, I signed up because I saw that Geninne Zlatkis was doing it too. I love her work. But really, I think this process is helping me appreciate my own work, myself and as a bonus I’m developing a daily art practice to boot.

Many a time it’s the work that I struggle over that is huge and complicated that I somehow appreciate so much more. I’m working on one of those projects right now. It’s a button project with many buttons and as I was working on it last night to my horror I wondered if someone might find it valuable for it’s bulk of buttons and not for my effort in the finished product. I hate when my mind goes there. Ultimately, I know I get to learn something from this process and I like to view my work in the bigger sphere of things and not necessarily one small piece of it.

Got  a chance to see the Pixar exhibit at the newly renovated Oakland Museum. Wow! They did an incredible job. I want to go back. Tom is trying to figure out where we might get a big version of this pig to put on a wall in our house.

Really enjoyed Macy Chadwick’s pochoir class yesterday. As I take classes, I realize the importance of focusing on something fairly simple, giving students enough time to experiment and making that into a finished project. And if one wants to do more with it, they can. I’m curious how I’ll incorporate this technique into my future work.

Love this: Misprinted Type reintroduced to me via an interview of Dorothy Simpson Krause from Alison Lee of Craftcast.

Today’s the first weekday in eleven days that I didn’t do my sketchbook collage in the morning. I also got a speeding ticket driving to work. No correlation really I’m sure, well maybe? Hmmm… I’ll be up early tomorrow. 🙂

The right hand side of this spread is from an Alameda Women Artists postcard promoting our show opening this Saturday in Alameda. Click here for more details. The resulting image reminds me of a periodic table. The circle images on the left is graphite over sequin waste. I’m looking forward to taking Macy Chadwick’s class on Pochoir: Editioning with Stencils tonight at SFCB.

I’ve finally found and located Michelle Moode’s thesis. I’m so excited to read it! Here’s a quote that she uses: “Every artist knows that he is engaged in an encounter with the infinite, and that work done with the heart and hand is ultimately worship of life itself.” –Soetsu Yanagi.

I’m working on writing my own statement of purpose for grad school and what I want to do most is redesign my website, or clean or anything but write. I have such resistance.
