Art Every Day Month: November 19

Roots and Branches Revisted, originally uploaded by Leah Virsik.

So I’ve been writing about my latest obsession with WordPress themes and I found out about Paper the theme Amanda Hawkins created. It’s a theme for artists and crafters. Really fun and she’s got a great style. She also has a DIY planner template and sewing instructions on her site. Check her out if you haven’t already! I found out about her via Erin Zam who makes incredible books. I love digging deep through the sites of other artists. One thing it has done is make them more accessible for me, basically so I don’t put them on a pedestal.

I’ve decided I want to create my own WordPress theme. Today, I was working on creating email blasts at work and I have so much fun trying to figure out code. I know I’ll enjoy it, it’ll just be a while before I tackle it.

I found out about Zentangles today. You’ll just have to take a look… Maria Thomas says ” Creating a Zentangle is like painting with patterns instead of colors.” There’s a beautiful Zentangle gallery on flckr.

Above is “Roots and Branches Revisited Reverse”. I really appreciate all the comments I’ve been receiving from people participating in Art Every Day Month. Your comments have helped me see more of what I create. It’s been helpful to see that the backs are part of the whole work, not just something you never show. Thanks to Tom for listening to me and helping me with the words for this last sentence.

  1. I adore syncronicity. Yesterday, I saw several Zentangles on AEDM participant blogs and I said, “Hmmm, put this on the list to try. Perhaps do a Zentangle Hand…” LOL.

Your art today reminds me of heaven and earth meeting. The brown and the blue, a moment of greeting, the kiss of early morning…

Love it. Thank you for posting… and thank you for being exactly the artist you are. My word today is gratitude – and I am simply grateful for you and your art. Thank you! THANK you! THANK YOU!

    1. Julie, thank you for your comment. I too saw another AEDM participant do some Zentangles and I was inspired as well. I’m sorry to say I don’t remember who it was. Your words are poetic. Thank you very much for your appreciation and gratitude. Would love to see a Zentangle hand of yours!

  2. Your Roots and Branches Revisited is gorgeous…I love it!…the colours, and the pieces that move beyond the piece of paper…lovely…will this become a part of a book, or will it hang on it’s own?

I have known about Zentangles for a while now…from someone in a project I participated in over at WetCanvas.com…zentangles are beautiful…and fun to do…and calming! I add a dash of colour to mine…

I am going to wander around your blog now…
    Thank you!

    1. Tamara,

Thanks so much for you comment!

I’m not sure what will become of my little postcards. I’m going to do a lot of them and see what happens. But yeah, a book would be interesting… I think both sides need to show. Oh, yes, WetCanvas.com, thanks for the reminder. They do have good content on their site.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope to check out your blog and potentially your Zentangles with color!

      Leah

  3. Dear Leah,
Sounds like you have been having fun in the world of WordPress and it’s themes. I have always been very fond of unique and vibrant themes and it is simply wonderful to browse through them and see what individuals come up with. Amanda Hawkins website and her theme sounds great! I have just bookmarked it for later viewing. Thanks for the share on that one. 🙂 I think that it is wonderful to express ourselfs in various experiences and if your feeling to create your own WordPress theme at the moment even better. Have fun! And keep us posted on your journey and creations.
P.S-Had never heard of a Zentagle up until now. Going to take a peek.

  4. Another beautiful image! I love the way you show the thread hanging from the cards. Something about that really delights me.

And thanks for pointing out Amanda Hawkins. What cool designs she does. I’m on the lookout for a new wordpress theme (something I can customize or have someone customize for me), so I appreciate the inspiration. 🙂

  5. Leah, I came by your blog, via the Creative Every Day blog. I am LOVING these mixed media pieces you are creating this month! The postcards are adorable, and you are inspiring me to create some of my own!

    All the best,
    Roberta
